This past Saturday, many local families joined us for our annual Kids Day @ The Market.  With crafts, facepainting, treats, kid foods, and the “Turbo Zone” inflatable obstacle course, it was a fantastic day! Thank you to the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre, our amazing vendors, our volunteers, and Niagara Inflatables for making the day such a success!

This new and exciting program will appeal to creative people as participants will be involved in designing and creating puppet characters, writing skits, building sets and props, and performing for live audiences.  The project is funded by the new Horizons for Seniors Program through Employment and Social Development Canada.  The focus is on the recruitment of seniors as participants however adult volunteers of all ages are welcome as Heartland Forest programs rely on volunteerism.  It’s a great opportunity for like minded people of all ages to work together and create a ‘cast of puppet characters’ for Heartland Forest.

On Friday, July 14, 2017, at approximately 10:00 p.m., a gentlemen (57 years of age) suffered a heart attack while playing in a men’s soccer game at Memorial Park.  Stavros Lalos, a Town employee, was prepping Memorial Pool for a swim meet taking place the following day when he was made aware of the situation on the soccer field. Stavros reports that he immediately dropped what he was doing, grabbed the AED and First Aid Kit from the pool office, and ran onto the soccer field. The gentlemen was not breathing and was pulseless when Stavros arrived.

The Battle of Fort George was a battle fought during the War of 1812, in which the Americans defeated a British force and captured the Fort George in Upper Canada. The troops of the United States Army and vessels of the United States Navy co-operated in a very successful amphibious assault, although most of the opposing British force escaped encirclement.

With so many things to do in Niagara during July, don't forget to mark the Saturday morning Farmers' Market on your calendar.  Our local farmers have their tables full of seasonal produce; what better way to celebrate Niagara's bounty than a meal made from fresh local fruits and veggies, naturally raised meats and eggs?   With baked goods, hand-tied floral bouquets, and breakfast, Saturday mornings and the Farmers' Market go hand-in-hand. Brian from Smooth Edge Sharpening will be ready to sharpen your knives, scissors, and tools this Saturday.  Grab a coffee, pastry, or farm-to-table-breakfast from Your Farm Gate, pull up a seat, and take in another great morning with some live music @ The Market with Cory Cruise.
